Romania is a country in Central and Eastern Europe which borders Bulgaria to the south, Ukraine to the north, Hungary to the west, Serbia to the southwest, Moldova to the east, and the Black Sea to the southeast. It has an area of 238,397 km (92,046 sq mi), with a population of around 19 million. Romania is the sixth-most populous member state of the European Union. Its capital and largest city are Bucharest. The Leu is the currency of Romania.

Romania is a developing country, with a high-income economy, ranking 49th in the Human Development Index. It has the world's 45th largest economy by nominal GDP, and following rapid economic growth in the early 2000s, the country has an economy based predominantly on services and is a producer and net exporter of machines and electric energy through companies. Romania has been a member of the United Nations since 1955, NATO since 2004, and the European Union since 2007.

Work / Long-stay Visa

 With the exception of the work permit for seconded workers, the long-stay visa for employment is granted to third-country nationals on the grounds of the work permit issued by the General Immigration Inspectorate of the Ministry of Interior of Romania, in accordance with the legislation in force.

The visa application must be submitted along with the following Supporting Documents:

1) Passport valid at least three months beyond the validity of visa;

2) NID card copy

3) 2 recent color photos 3 cm x 4 cm, on a white background;

4) 10) The criminal record (Police Clearance Certificate) issued by the authorities from the country of domicile or residence, apostilled or legalized, as the case may be;

5) Dully filled in the application form.

6) letter of recommendation from the recruiting agency;

7) Booking of a two-way flight ticket to Romania;

8) Medical insurance valid in Romania,

9) Copy of the work permit issued by the General Immigration Inspectorate of the Ministry of Interior of Romania;

10) The proof of the means of subsistence at the level of the minimum guaranteed wage for the entire period specified on the visa;

11) The criminal record (Police Clearance Certificate) issued by the authorities from the country of domicile or residence, apostilled or legalized, as the case may be;

12) Proof of accommodation.

Short Stay Visa

Supporting documents:

1)  Passport valid at least three months beyond the intended period of stay

2)  NID card copy

3)  2 recent color photos 3 cm x 4 cm, on a white background;

4)  Dully filled in the application form

5)  Invitation approved by the inspectorate general for immigration – Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania,

OR,

Valid visa/residence permit issued by a state the citizens of which are not required a visa to enter Romani;

6)  Letter of certification of employment;

7)  Booking of a two-way flight ticket to Romania;

8)  Medical insurance valid in Romania,

9)  Proof of financial means in the amount of EUR 50/day for the entire period, but not less than EUR 500 or the equivalent in convertible currency;

10)  Proof of accommodation, as a voucher for paid accommodation at a tourism unit, (Hotel/Resort booking).

Visit visa

The short-stay visa for visiting purposes – this type of short-stay visa is issued to third-country nationals who wish to travel to Romania for private visits, upon invitation on behalf of Romanian citizens, or of third-country nationals, holders of a valid Romanian residence permit.  

Supporting documents:

1)  Passport valid at least three months beyond the intended period of stay

2)  NID card copy

3)  2 recent color photos 3 cm x 4 cm, on a white background;

4)  Dully filled in the application form

5)  Letter of certification of employment;

6)  Booking of a two-way flight ticket to Romania;

7)  Medical insurance valid in Romania,

8)  Proof of financial means in the amount of EUR 50/day for the entire period, but not less than EUR 500 or the equivalent in convertible currency;

9)  Proof of accommodation, as a firm reservation at a tourist accommodation unit, an ownership deed or rent agreement for a dwelling in Romania,

10)  Invitation approved by the inspectorate general for immigration – Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania,

OR,

In case of family members of Romanian citizens, family members of third state nationals holders of valid residence permits, holders of valid a visa/residence permit issued by a European Union Member State, of the European Economic Area Member State, or of the Swiss Confederation, the applicant will present an authenticated invitation from the host, stating that they cover the repatriation expenses, should the invited third-country national not leave Romania upon expiry of their right of stay granted by the visa, as well as the means of support and accommodation, in case the host undertakes to cover such costs.

Business visa

Supporting documents:

1)  Passport valid at least three months beyond the intended period of stay

2)  NID card copy

3)  2 recent color photos 3 cm x 4 cm, on a white background;

4)  Dully filled in the application form

5)  Letter of certification of employment;

6)  Booking of a two-way flight ticket to Romania;

7)  Medical insurance valid in Romania,

8)  Invitation approved by the inspectorate general for immigration – Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania

       OR

If the foreign citizen is invited to Romania by a company that is on the ANAF (National Authority of Fiscal Administration) lists as a large or medium contributor to the state budget, he will present a Letter of Guarantee from the company, addressed to the National Visa Center / MFA and registered at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Consular Department. The original Letter of Guarantee from a company or public authority to attend meetings, conferences, fairs, or congresses related to trade or industry, showing that the company or public authority WILL cover the costs of repatriation if the invited foreigner does not leave Romania until the date on established by visa or other documents proving the purpose of the purpose of the travel. Proof of financial means in the amount of EUR 50/day for the entire period, but not less than EUR 500 or the equivalent in convertible currency;
